Hundreds of people marched on July 2 to commemorate the victims of an arson attack in which 33 intellectuals and two hotel personnel lost their lives in the Central Anatolian province of Sivas on the 30th anniversary of the massacre.

Villagers staged a protest over plans to build a new refugee camp in Kahramanmara?, a province in southern Turkey close to the Syrian border, daily Milliyet has reported. 

A prominent deputy from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has blamed the “German deep state” for the Sivas massacre, one of the worst cases civil pogroms in Turkey’s recent history that claimed 35 victims, including many Alevi intellectuals.
