Now, the tide has turned in Turkey and the 37-year-old is making history by vying for a seat in Turkish Parliament on June 7.

Turkey celebrates Sovereignty Day, Children's Day on April 23
Turkey commemorates National Sovereignty Day and Children?s Day on April 23, the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish parliament, with several ceremonies across the country.
The day is celebrated as a children?s festival because children were awarded a special place in the April 23 festivities by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the modern Republic of Turkey.

Ruling AKP, main opposition CHP to be next to each other on ballots
Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) will be printed next to each other on the June 7 parliamentary election ballots.
The order of the 31 political parties running in the elections was designated by the drawing of lots by the Supreme Election Board (YSK) on April 3.
Turkey’s main opposition deputy removed from party after controversial speech
Main opposition Republican Peopleâs Party (CHP) deputy Süheyl Batum has been removed from the party due to a speech he made after the resignation of former CHP deputy Emine Ãlker Tarhan.
CHP EskiÅehir deputy Batum was removed from the CHP by the partyâs High Discipline Board on Dec. 11, over his speech in late October.
Former CHP dissident Tarhan forms a new party
Following her resignation from Turkeyâs main opposition Republican Peopleâs Party (CHP), Emine Ãlker Tarhan has founded a new political party.
The move comes two weeks after resigning from the CHP after severely criticizing the party's policies, which she claimed were âdetachedâ from the people and not conducive to it coming to power.
