Operation octopus: Sea shepherds battle illegal fishing
Environmental organization Sea Shepherd has removed over 6,500 illegal octopus traps from Porto Lagos, Xanthi, in just 20 days, releasing hundreds of octopuses back into the sea.
The Thracian Sea, a major source of octopuses for the Greek market, faces rampant overfishing with tens of thousands of plastic traps deployed illegally.

Police raid anarchist squat at Aristotle University
Police conducted a raid on an anarchist squat located within the Aristotle University campus in northern Greece in the early hours of Monday.
The evacuation of the self-proclaimed "Self-managed Canteen of the Medical School" took place in the presence of a judicial officer. No individuals were present at the site during the police intervention, and various items were seized.
Aristotle University stands proud at EuroPride 2024
The presence of Aristotle University at EuroPride 2024, which starts on Friday in Thessaloniki, is seen as a strong message of support to the LGBTQ+ community.
It is the first time Greece is hosting EuroPride, which will last for nine days, and is considered one of the most important festivals of the LGBTQ+ community in Europe - the first was organized in 1992 in London.

Head of Apollo crowned with laurels unearthed
A head dated to the 2nd or early 3rd century AD belonging to a beardless man crowned with a wreath of laurels, most likely belonging to a statue of Apollo, was among the finds made by Aristotle University researchers at the Philippi archeological site in northeastern Greece during excavations completed last September, according to the Culture Ministry.

Trial of 49 suspects detained in Thessaloniki University postponed
A trial of 49 individuals arrested on Saturday afternoon following reports of vandalism at the Aristotle University in the northern port city of Thessaloniki was postponed until March 29 on Monday, due to lack of witnesses.
All suspects were released from custody.
