Burn victim of Attica blaze passes away, death toll rises to 89

A 55-year-old woman who was being treated in the intensive care unit of Athens' Evangelismos hospital for burns suffered in July's deadly blaze passed away on Saturday night.

Her death raises the number of confirmed fatalities to 89.

Nine more victims of the blaze are in intensive care. A child is being treated in Aghia Sofia hospital in stable condition.

Death toll from deadly Attica fires rises to 85

The death toll from the deadly blaze that ravaged the coastal town of Mati in east Attica on Monday rose to 85 on Thursday, after a 73-year-old man who was in intensive care in Athens' Evangelismos hospital died and two more bodies were discovered by rescue crews.

Earlier in the day, a fire service spokesperson told journalists the number had risen to 82.
