Eight people - the majority believed to be women of Asian descent - were killed in shootings at three different spas in the U.S. state of Georgia on March 16 and a 21-year-old white man was in custody on suspicion of staging all three attacks, police said.

Atlanta's top prosecutor said his office will decide this week whether to bring charges against the police officer who shot Rayshard Brooks, a black man whose killing outside a Wendy's (international fast food restaurant chain) on Friday sparked a fresh wave of protests against police violence in the Southern city and added fuel to nationwide anger over racial injustice.

An Atlanta police officer was fired following the fatal shooting of a black man and another officer was placed on administrative duty, the police department announced early June 14.

Violent protests erupted across the United States late on May 29 over the death of a handcuffed black man in police custody, with murder charges laid against the arresting Minneapolis officer failing to quell boiling anger.

"There were no signs of forced entry or damage observed to the vehicle," Atlanta police investigator James White in a statement to the AJC 

A bodyguard for boxer Floyd Mayweather is recovering at an Atlanta hospital after a drive-by shooting early Monday outside a hotel. 

Atlanta police say three vehicles carrying members of Mayweather's party were returning from a club to a hotel in the upscale Buckhead area around 3 a.m. when they were hit with gunfire.
