Head of Popular Unity party summoned over gun possession

The leader of the far-left Popular Unity party Panagiotis Lafazanis has been summoned by Attica police authorities to answer charges of illegal gun use and possession.

The summons is part of a wider investigation ordered by an Athens prosecutor into protests against foreclosures on the properties of overindebted Greeks.

Eight arrested in Attica drug bust

Attica police said on Wednesday that they have broken up a wide-reaching drug distribution network and made eight arrests.

The eight suspects - five Albanian nationals and three Greeks - were arrested in a police operation that spread across the city. Reports said the leader of the gang was a 35-year-old Albanian man.

It's a good thing that POASY, the union representing police officers, was banned by the head of the Attica Police from having the meeting they were planning in Exarchia Square.

Eleven Greeks tied to huge haul of cocaine in France

French authorities on Wednesday provided the Attica Police's narcotics division, the Hellenic Coast Guard and the Financial Crimes Squad with the names of 11 Greek nationals arrested on Tuesday in southern France in connection with a massive haul of cocaine.

According to sources, the suspects are all young men, none of whom has been previously convicted in Greece.
