Veteran Zagreb Mayor Looks Set for Re-Election

Despite a dispute with the ruling centre-right Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ, Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic may win the upcoming local elections in May, political analyst Zarko Puhovski told BIRN.

Reports last week suggested that the HDZ rejected Bandic's city budget proposal for 2017 in order to initiate a process to oust him.

Fans of Zagreb's Embattled Mayor Form New Party

The party formed on Saturday by supporters of Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic has only slim chances of polling well in the next parliamentary elections, experts say.

Bandic is currently in custody being investigated for corruption.

The mayor of the Croatian capital was arrested in October 2014 on suspicion of corruption, abuse of office and influence peddling.
