Far-Right Conference in Brussels Halted by Police Sparking Controversy

A scheduled conference of far-right European politicians, including Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and former British MEP Nigel Farage, was abruptly halted by police in Brussels. The intervention, ordered by one of the municipal mayors in the Belgian capital, sparked controversy and condemnation from various quarters.

New Far-Right Political Group Emerges at EU Parliament

The leader of the French National Front Marine Le Pen announced in Brussels on Tuesday the establishment of a new far-right political group in the European Parliament.

The group bears the name Europe of Nations and Freedoms (ENF) and its co-presidents will be Le Pen and Marcel Graaff from Dutch Party for Freedom (PVV), EUobserver reports.

EU Parliament Raps Serbia, Montenegro on Media Freedom

The European Parliament, joined by the EU Enlargement Commissioner, Johannes Hahn, on Tuesday debated reform efforts made by Montenegro last year as a candidate country for EU membership.

The resolution called on Montenegro to tackle corruption and organised crime, as well as improve media freedom.
