A judge in Romania has granted a request to extend by another 30 days the arrest of Andrew Tate, the social media personality who was detained in the country on charges of being part of an organized crime group, human trafficking and rape, an official said on Jan. 20. 

A lawyer who identified as Ukrainian and who had received a prison sentence died on Wednesday after ramming his car into the main gate of the Russian embassy in Bucharest and detonating an explosive.

Former national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea was released from the Rahova Penitentiary on Thursday after serving more than two and a half years of a three-and-a-half-year sentence received in 2019 in the case of fictitious employment at the Teleorman child protection agency.

The Bucharest Constituency Electoral Bureau unanimously approved the protocol for the creation of the USR PLUS Alliance in the Capital City and its sectors, USR PLUS said in a release. The Save Romania Union (USR) and the Liberty, Unity, Solidarity Party (PLUS) will run on joint lists for the Bucharest local sector councils and the city's General Council.
