Seasonal firefighters clashed with police in Greece's Civil Protection Ministry during a protest Thursday to demand permanent positions after their contracts expire following a grueling wildfire season.

Hundreds of seasonal firefighters have gathered outside the Civil Protection Ministry, demanding permanent positions as their contracts expire following a grueling wildfire season.

The men reportedly encountered firefighters along the way, who urged them to turn back due to the ongoing fire. Unfortunately, they continued into the danger zone.

An evacuation alert was sent Tuesday morning to residents of Erythros in Nea Makri.

The front in Erythros reignited at approximately 5 a.m. on Tuesday. Residents were instructed to evacuate towards the port of Rafina through Marathonas Avenue. 

The Civil Protection Ministry issued a warning regarding a significant risk of fires in six regions of Greece on Sunday. 

Two police officers in Attica are accused of forgery and defamation related to an online posting of a fake order attributed to a senior police official, the Civil Protection Ministry said on Wednesday.

The Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Ministry is to propose a bill that will upgrade the operation and importance of the 112 emergency number.

In the context of restructuring civil protection to create an integrated crisis prevention and management mechanism, the ministry will be able to take preventive or emergency measures at a central level.

A concerted attack was launched Thursday by opposition parties against the government over the lack of preventive measures to deal with the catastrophic flooding that struck the region of Thessaly in central Greece.
