More Turkish Cypriots seek higher wages in the south
News reports in the northern part of Cyprus show the devaluation of the Turkish lira and higher wages in the south are driving more Turkish Cypriots to seek employment in the Republic of Cyprus.
According to Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris, the minimum salary in the north is around TRY 2279, just over €300, saying it is not enough to cover even the basic needs of a family.
Suspected Gulenists arrested in Cyprus back to Turkey
Forty-five Turkish nationals, including suspected Gulenists and their families, were transported to Turkey on Monday following their detention by Turkish Cypriot police in Kyrenia over the weekend.
According to CNA News Agency, 19 ex-military officers, 9 women and 17 children, were all arrested in Kyrenia last Friday.
Lute wants to cut to the chase in Cyprus
UN special envoy Jane Lute will reportedly keep a low profile during her much anticipated visit on Cyprus, where she will hold separate meetings with the two Cypriot leaders.
UN press officer Aleem Siddique told CNA News Agency that Lute is not expected to make any statements to the media during her brief tour in Cyprus.
