Bulgarian Politics: WCC Skeptical as GERB Pursues Coalition Agreements with BSP, DB, and TISP

GERB has invited three political formations—Democratic Bulgaria (DB), the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), and There Is Such a People (TISP)—to engage in "expert conversations" aimed at forming a government. The invitations were sent with a proposal for the meetings to take place at a mutually convenient time next week.

Last night, it became clear that the "We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria" coalition (WCC-DB) will not support the first mandate to form a GERB-SDS government with prime minister candidate Mariya Gabriel. Bulgarian PM Borisov Dismissed the Idea of Reducing VAT

The government closes the subject of a reduction in value added tax (VAT). The talks are being terminated because they contradict one of the points in the coalition agreement between GERB and the United Patriots, namely that within the mandate of this government tax laws should not change. This was announced by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov after today's Coalition Council.
