Zoe Laskari dies at 75

Iconic Greek actress Zoe Laskari passed away at her home in Porto Rafti, Friday afternoon at the age of 75. Zoe Laskari, who was born in Thessaloniki, was one the three female actresses that marked the golden era of Greek movies in the 50s and 60s, the other two being Aliki Vougiouklaki and Jenny Karezi.

‘Bild’ newspaper poll shows absolute majority for SYRIZA elusive

German newspaper ‘Bild’ publishes an in house poll indicating that SYRIZA is far from its goal of gaining absolute majority in the upcoming elections. According to the poll findings SYRIZA receives 28 per cent, with major opposition conservative party New Democracy coming a close second with 25 per cent.

Tsipras: Greeks Determined to Take Control of Their Own Destiny in Referendum

Greeks are determined to decide their own destiny in Sunday's bailout referendum, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said after casting his ballot in Athens.

"No one can ignore the will of the people to live, to live with determination, to take its destiny into its own hands," Tsipras said, according to AFP.

Former Thessaloniki governor exits New Democracy


Panayiotis Psomiadis, a former governor of Central Macedonia, has resigned from conservative party New Democracy, the AMNA news agency reported on Wednesday.

According to agency reports, Psomiadis left the conservative party after being refused a candidate spot on New Democracy’s European Parliament list in view of next month's elections.
