Croatia Advised to Merge Local Govt on Finnish Model

The European Commission has told Croatia to merge local government units on the Finnish model - and offer financial benefits to all counties, municipalities, towns that agree to pool their resources.

Finland, a country with 5.1 million inhabitants, underwent a similar process in 2005, cutting the number of municipalities from 444 to 320, a reduction of 28 per cent.

BRATISLAVA -- Serbia will not recall its ambassador from Croatia nor send any negative signal to Croatia, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said late on Wednesday.

"I think that Serbia and Croatia need to cooperate far better," Vucic told Radio-Television of Serbia in Bratislava, Slovakia.

A Croatian NGO set up to lobby for the rights of people with loans in Swiss francs on Monday announced street protests in April while calling for the resignation of the national bank chief.

The Association Franak said that the governor of Croatian national bank, HNB, Boris Vujcic, should step down, Ivan Kontrec, from the Association, told a press conference.

Croatia Plans to Raise Billion Euro From Bonds

Croatia plans to raise cash by selling an additional billion euro of state bonds.

The economy ministry has commissioned four top banks - Barclays, Erste Group, JPMorgan and UniCredit - to arrange the issue of this new edition of euro bonds.

The Minister of Economy, Boris Lalovac, first announced this new edition of euro state bonds back in December.
