Opposition HDP spokesperson Baydemir briefly detained in Turkey's Diyarbakır

Police on June 2 briefly detained Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) spokesperson Osman Baydemir in the southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbakır as part of an ongoing case in which he is accused of "insulting public servants," Doğan News Ageny has reported.

Turkish-German footballer given suspended term for 'terror propaganda'

A court in southeastern Turkey on April 6 handed a professional footballer born in Germany a suspended jail sentence for "making terror propaganda" for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

Deniz Naki, who plays for second division side Amedspor in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, was accused of promoting the PKK.

Turkish court accepts indictments against opposition party co-chairs

A Diyarbakır court accepted indictments on Jan. 31 against opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, charging them with multiple counts of terrorism. 

A Diyarbakır Court of Serious Crimes will try Demirtaş on seven counts, two of which are related to terror, with a prosecutor demanding 142 years in jail for the co-chair.
