People who migrated from Siberia formed the Göbeklitepe, and those in Göbeklitepe migrated in five other ways to spread to the world, said experts about the 12,000-year-old Neolithic archaeological site in the southwestern province of Şanlıurfa.
Asphalt melts due to torrid weather in Denizli
The asphalt on a road in the Aegean province of Denizli has melted due to a new heatwave Turkey entered on May 28, causing temperatures to surpass the season norms by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius countrywide.
Over the coming week, the temperatures will be around 32 degrees Celsius in the capital Ankara, 33 in Istanbul and 36 in the western province of İzmir.

A Turkish expert, who has been working on petroglyphs for a decade, has alleged that his team has found some cave paintings belonging to ancient Turks in Mongolia's Gobi Desert that need geological dating.
Ancient Soli Pompeiopolis to become archaeopark
Archaeologists in southern Turkey are working to turn the ancient city of Soli Pompeiopolis into an open-air museum, or an archaeopark, the head of excavations at the site has said.
"Our aim is to establish the connection between the areas we're excavating and turn this place into an archaeopark," archeologist Remzi Yağcı said at the dig site in the province of Mersin.

Excavations to begin in İzmir’s basilica
The 2021 season excavations at the Ayasuluk Hill and St. Jean Monument will start on July 4 in Izmir.
Expert researchers from Istanbul University, Akdeniz University, Ege University, Dokuz Eylül University and Manisa Celal Bayar University will take part in the excavations.

Wreck of historical warship with unknown flag found off İzmir
Turkish academics express excitement over the discovery of a warship, which is believed to have sunk in the 18th century and whose parts are widely scattered, off the coast from Foça in the Aegean province of İzmir.
The sunken warship is the latest in a long line of ships that have been found in the underwater excavations of the area.
Archaeologists reach inner walls in site of ancient Greek poet’s tomb in Turkey’s south
Excavation teams have reached the inner walls of a memorial tomb of the ancient Greek didactic poet Aratus in the Mediterranean province of Mersin's Mezitli district.
The archaeologists, led by academic Remzi Yağcı from Dokuz Eylül University, have been carrying out excavations to unearth the memorial tomb of the Hellenic-era astronomer and poet in what was then called Soli.
490 earthquakes hit Turkish resort Bodrum in last 24 hours
At least 490 earthquakes hit the Aegean resort district of Bodrum in the last 24 hours after a 5.1-magnitude temblor on Aug. 8.
The earthquake was previously measured at 4.9 magnitude, but the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) revised it to 5.1 magnitude.
AFAD announced that 490 aftershocks rattled the area following the main quake.
