Six supporters of Egypt's outlawed Muslim Brotherhood were killed in clashes with police in Cairo on July 17, security sources said. The violence in different locations took place as Egyptians marked the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr.

Egypt's deadliest militant group, Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, pledged its allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), in a recording posted on its Twitter account on Nov. 10.
      
"We announce our pledge of allegiance to the caliph Ibrahim Ibn Awad... to listen and obey," the audio recording said, referring to ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
      

Romania's Foreign Ministry (MAE) is firmly condemning two terror attacks that occurred on October 24 in the northern part of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula that killed Egyptian soldiers and left many injured.

Egypt's army said July 27 it has destroyed 13 more tunnels connecting the Sinai Peninsula to the Gaza Strip, taking to 1,639 the overall number it has laid waste to.
      
Cairo has poured troops into the peninsula to counter a rising insurgency since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last year, and its security operation involves the destruction of these tunnels.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has dismissed a recent congratulatory message sent by President Abdullah Gül to Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on being elected Egyptian president and said such messages are “meaningless.”

Field Marshal Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has resigned as Egypt's military chief, as he intends to run for presidency.

Sisi appeared on state TV, saying that he was wearing a military uniform for the last time, the BBC reported.
