The Presidential decree to adjust the distribution of parliamentary seats following the results of the 2021 census has reached the Council of State. The decree was authored by the Electoral Authority of the Interior Ministry.

An official delegation of Romania's Standing Electoral Authority (AEP) will participate, Friday to Monday, in observing early parliamentary elections in Moldova that will take place on Sunday, according to an AEP press statement. While in Moldova, the visiting AEP team will meet officials of Moldova's Central Electoral Commission (CEC) as well as other international observers.

The electoral process in the parliamentary election is under way abroad, where by 7:00 Romanian time on Saturday more than 21,500 Romanians from outside the country voted. According to data published online on the permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) platform, 21,329 voters cast their vote by mail and 273 exercised their right to the polls, with the total number of voters at 7:00 a.m.

More than 18 million Romanian voters are expected to go to the polls on Sunday at over 18,000 polling stations to open in the country to elect their representatives to the new Parliament. Senators and MPs are elected by ballot, according to the principle of proportional representation. Voting in the country takes place on a single day - Sunday, from 07:00hrs to 21:00hrs.

Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said on Wednesday that the local elections set for September 27 could be held without increasing the risk of spreading the novel coronavirus and underlined that conducting the vote depends on the fairness of candidates and their supporters. "I believe that we can hold the elections without increasing the risk of spreading the virus.

Ambassador Christian Strohal, who is leading the mission of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe - the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) for observing the presidential elections in Romania, stated for AGERPRES that the electoral process is always a national one, the line his team follows being "alignment to international rules".

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) on Friday submitted to the Standing Electoral Authority (AEP) an additional list of 270 polling stations abroad that add to 444 already approved places. MAE has so far put forth 714 polling stations that will be organised abroad for the presidential election, according to a MAE press statement.

Romanians nationals abroad will be allowed to vote in the presidential election on November 8, 9 and 10, according to latest pieces of legislation regarding the organisation of the ballot adopted on Tuesday by the government, with electioneering set to start on October 12. Governmental spokesman Nelu Barbu unveiled at the Government House a timetable for this autumn's presidential election.

National Liberal Party (PNL) floor leader in the Chamber of Deputies Raluca Turcan announced in the general debates on Wednesday on the draft 2019 national budget bill that her party would vote against the bill, calling the budget questionable from a constitutional point of view.
