Elie Wiesel National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania

A commemorative event in memory of the Jews killed in 1941 in the "death train" took place on Thursday in (southeast) Calarasi, in the presence of some survivors of the pogrom in (northeast) Iasi, who recalled the ordeal they went through in those times.

The unearthing by a team with the Elie Wiesel National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania (INSHR) of a new mass grave in the Vulturi forest of the Popricani commune in the northeastern County of Iasi is an additional argument that the Holocaust existed in Romania, on Friday said the head of the INSHR, Alexandru Florian.

Director of the Elie Wiesel National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania (INSHR) Alexandru Florian on Friday voiced confidence that the Museum of the History of the Jews and the Holocaust in Romania will be built in the space under the administration of the Grigore Antipa National Museum of Natural History in Bucharest.

The "Elie Wiesel" Institute commemorates the victims of Roma genocide during the Holocaust period and draws attention to the fact that discrimination and racism are still a vulnerability of society.

The National News Agency AGERPRES concluded on Wednesday a partnership agreement with the Elie Wiesel National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in order to establish, implement and disseminate information and activities dedicated to history and understanding of the Holocaust.
