Greek unemployment drops to 23.2 percent in July

Greece's jobless rate eased to 23.2 percent in July from 23.4 percent in the previous month, statistics agency ELSTAT said on Thursday.

The number of officially unemployed reached 1.12 million people.

Hardest hit were young people aged 15 to 24 years, with their jobless rate dropping to 42.7 percent from 48.6 percent in the same month a year earlier.

Greece's jobless rate eased to 24.2 percent in February from 24.4 percent in the previous month, statistics agency ELSTAT said on Thursday.

The number of officially unemployed reached 1.158 million people. Hardest hit were young people aged 15 to 24 years though their jobless rate dropped to 51.4 percent from 51.8 percent in the same month a year earlier.

Greek unemployment eases to 25.4 pct in February

Greece's jobless rate dropped slightly to 25.4 percent in February from a downwardly revised 25.6 percent rate in the previous month, statistics agency ELSTAT said on Wednesday.

February's reading, based on seasonally adjusted data, is the lowest since July 2012 when unemployment stood at 25.3 percent. The jobless rate hit a record high of 27.9 percent in September 2013.

Greek unemployment falls to 25.8 pct in October

Greece's jobless rate fell to 25.8 percent in October from an upwardly revised 26 percent rate in September as the economy emerged from a six-year recession, Greek statistics agency ELSTAT said on Thursday.

October's reading was the lowest since August 2012 when unemployment stood at 25.5 percent. The record high was set in September 2013, when unemployment hit 28 percent.

Greece's jobless rate fell to 25.7 percent in September from a upwardly revised 26 percent rate in August as the country's six-year recession eases, Greek statistics agency ELSTAT said on Thursday.

September's reading was the lowest since August 2012 when unemployment stood at 25.5 percent. The record high was set in September 2013, when unemployment hit 28 percent.

Greek PM vows to bring down unemployment

Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has vowed to bring down unemployment while voicing optimism that some 770,000 new jobs will be created by 2020.

“Unemployment is society's most insidious and tough enemy because it undermines the dreams of youth,” Samaras said during a meeting of the government's employment council on Monday.

Greek unemployment steady at 27.3 percent in April

Greece's jobless rate was steady at 27.3 percent in April compared to the previous month, the country's statistics agency ELSTAT said on Thursday.
