Turkey’s state of emergency commission makes first decisions on dismissed public sector staff

Turkey’s State of Emergency Procedures Investigation Commission on Dec. 22 made its first decisions on public sector staff who had been dismissed with state of emergency decrees in the wake of last year’s failed coup attempt, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has refused an application from a Turkish teacher who alleges that he was wrongly dismissed with a state of emergency degree, saying the educator must first apply to Turkey's State of Emergency Investigation Commission for the purposes of first exhausting all domestic political avenues.

Members of the commission that will receive objections to state of emergency rulings, mostly related to the dismissal of public officials, have been determined, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has stated, adding that the commission will soon commence its work.
