Greek beaches among cleanest, report shows

Ninety-seven percent of bathing sites monitored last year in Greece were found to have excellent water quality, according to a report by the European Commission and the European Environment Agency (EEA) published Thursday.
The annual report monitors bathing sites across the European Union that meet the "most stringent quality standards for water cleanliness."

There is air pollution in several cities of the country again, according to data of the European Environment Agency's "Air Quality" indicator. The most polluted is the air in the city of Blagoevgrad, South-West of Bulgari. Air pollution is slowly easing in EU countries but still causes nearly half a million early deaths each year, the European Environment Agency (EEA) said in its annual report published Monday, reports AFP. 

Although pollution levels dropped slightly in 2015, they remain far higher than standards set by both the European Union and the World Health Organization, the report said.
