Hungary Proposes New EU Commissioner After Trocsanyi Rejection
Hungary on Monday nominated Oliver Varhelyi, its ambassador to the EU, as its new candidate for a European Commissioner's post, after European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen accepted a decision by the European Parliament's Committee on Legal Affairs to block Budapest's previous proposal, Laszlo Trocsanyi.
EP Committee Confirms Rejection of Trocsanyi and Plumb
The European Parliament's Committee on Legal Affairs, JURI, on Monday confirmed its rejection of the Hungarian and Romanian candidates for the Commission, Laszlo Trocsanyi of Hungary and Rovana Plumb of Romania. Trocsanyi lost by 13 votes to seven while Plumb lost by 12 votes to nine.
EP Legal Affairs Committee in favor of stripping New Democracy MEP Zagorakis of immunity
The European Parliament's Committee on Legal Affairs unanimously decided to strip New Democracy MEP Theodoros Zagorakis of his parliamentary immunity, following a request forwarded by the Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Supreme Court of Greece on 19 December 2014 and announced in plenary on January 28, 2015.
