Several universities in Bucharest and elsewhere in Romania are holding today festivities to mark the opening of academic year 2019-2020. They include the University of Bucharest, the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE) and the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, as well as several faculties within the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration.

This is the assessment of Igor Simic, vice-president of the Serb List, who commented on the intention of the Pristina authorities to integrate the Kosovska Mitrovica-based Pristina University into the Kosovo system, by passing a law on higher education.

Professor Mircea Dumitru, the rector of the University of Bucharest (UB), was unanimously elected chairman of the Balkan Universities Association by members the General Assembly at the fourth conference of the Balkan Universities Association (BUA), which took place in Tetovo, in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, March 30-31, 2018.

The rector of the University of Macedonia, Achilleas Zapranis, appeared determined on Thursday to hit back after vandals ransacked part of the campus the previous night in the second such attack in a week.

The Executive Committee of the International Human Rights Network of Academies and Scholarly Societies (H.R. Network) issued a statement endorsed by 28 Nobel laureates in support of Turkish academics who have come under fire for signing a petition calling for an end to military operations in southeast Turkey. 

BELGRADE - The Serbian government adopted on Friday a number of bills on ratification of international agreements, including the Bill to ratify the investment promotion and protection agreement between the Republic of Serbia and Canada.
