More than 1,000 criminal complaints for high treason have been filed against German Chancellor Angela Merkel since the height of the refugee crisis in 2015, local media reported yesterday.

The attack in Brussels was officially qualified as a terrorist act, the federal prosecutor's office said.

Germany launched a second investigation on March 28 into suspected spying by Turkey, with the German interior minister saying Berlin will not tolerate foreign espionage on its soil.

Turkey has strongly condemned a decision by a Belgian court to reject a request by the federal prosecutor's office to forward a case on 36 people affiliated with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) to a criminal court.

Belgian officials on March 28 raised the death toll from last week's devastating Islamic State of ?Raq and the Levant (ISIL) suicide attacks on Brussels airport and the metro to 35.  

Six people were arrested on March 24 in a series of police raids in Brussels, federal prosecutors said, two days after jihadist attacks in the Belgian capital left 31 dead.

Brussels will remain at the highest security threat level for another week over fears of an imminent terror attack, the Belgian government said Nov. 23, amid a continued manhunt to find a key suspect in the Paris attacks on Nov. 13 that killed 130 people.
