A group of university students have rekindled the heated debate over the acceptance of the Muslim veil in French society as they invited fellow classmates at the prestigious Sciences Po university to try on the garment.

The chief executive of Air France-KLM, Alexandre de Juniac, is stepping down to run the airline industry's main trade group, the International Air Transport Association, it was announced on April 5.

France's Socialist government survived a no-confidence vote initiated by the opposition conservatives over planned economic reforms.

The motion was backed by 234 lawmakers, with 289 votes in favor needed for the no-confidence vote to succeed.
