French Prime Minister Michel Barnier's hard-won new government faced pressure from day one on Sunday, as it came under fire from opponents on both the left and far right, which are now the largest blocs in parliament.

Thousands of left-wing demonstrators on Sept. 7 took to the streets across France to protest against the nomination of the centre-right Michel Barnier as prime minister and denounce President Emmanuel Macron's "power grab."

Protests took place in Paris as well as other cities including Nantes in the west, Nice and Marseille in the south and Strasbourg in the east.

The increasing anti-Semitism occurred after the Israeli attack on Gaza, AP reported.
Prime Minister lisabeth Bourne, representatives of several left-wing conservative parties, as well as centrists of President Emmanuel Macron, and supporters of far-right leader Marine Le Pen, attended the march in the French capital.

 French far-right leader Marine Le Pen, who has been largely out of the spotlight since stinging electoral defeats, on Saturday sought to reclaim the mantle of main opponent to President Emmanuel Macron, which polls now attribute to the far-left, reported Reuters.
