Some 19 Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants have been neutralized as part of the ongoing Euphrates Shield operation in Syria, the Turkish Armed Forces announced on Jan. 10.

A fuel truck exploded in the busy center of a rebel-held town near Syria's border with Turkey on Jan. 7, killing dozens of people and wounding dozens more, several sources said.

One Turkish soldier and 69 Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants were killed over the weekend in clashes in Syria's al-Bab, while a total of 365 targets were hit as part of Turkey's ongoing Euphrates Shield Operation.

The killed soldier was a sergeant and was part of the Turkish forces to capture al-Bab from ISIL, along with Ankara-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA). 

More than 1,300 Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants have been killed since Turkey launched its military campaign in northern Syria, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement on Jan. 6.      

The military said 1,362 militnats had been killed since the Euphrates Shield operation was launched on Aug. 24, with a further 168 wounded and six taken prisoner.      

Turkey was told not to go further than 20 kilometers into Syria in its cross-border operation, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Dec. 5. 

Turkey has told U.S. officials it has not received sufficient support in its fight against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the last month-and-a-half and expects full support in its bid to drive the jihadists out of Syria's al-Bab, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's spokesman said on Jan. 5.

The lack of the U.S.-led coalition's air support in Turkey's Euphrates Sheid operation in Syria's al-Bab makes the mission of İncirlik Air Base in the southern province of Adana questionable, Defense Minister Fikri Işık said on Jan. 4.

Turkish police and other security forces had taken extensive security measures against a potential terror attack on the New Year's Eve, particularly in Istanbul and Ankara, frequent targets of both jihadist and separatist terror organizations.
