Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis on Wednesday defended the government's decision to remove an artwork displayed at the Greek Consulate in New York - a pink-and-white quilt resembling the national flag, part of a campaign against domestic violence.

The Greek Consulate in New York has removed a pink flag artwork, in the design of the country's flag, against domestic violence, sparking a dispute. Government officials said that it had been taken down at the request of the Foreign Ministry. 

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis described a proposal submitted by main opposition SYRIZA on the vote of diaspora Greeks in general elections as "deeply offensive," saying it treats them as "second-class citizens."
