Greek court rejects early release request by N17 convict
A Greek council of appeals court judges on Monday rejected an appeal by convicted November 17 terrorist Savvas Xiros to be granted early release on the grounds of poor health.
Xiros, now 55, was seriously injured when a homemade bomb detonated in his hands in the port of Piraeus in June 2002, leading to the dismantling of the organization.
Greece still ranks next to last in press freedom among EU countries
Greece has placed 88th out of 180 countries in the World Press Freedom Index by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
Despite rising one place compared to last year, media freedom in Greece remains problematic according to the organization, which cited last year's controversial TV broadcasting license auction which was shot down as unconstitutional by the Greek Council of State.
