Greece hit by low birth rate, negative net migration rate
By 2050, teenagers will make up no more than 12 percent of Greece's population, the average age will be 50, and the number of economically active people will, at best, stand at 3.7 million.
These figures were released by the Hellenic Association of Geriatrics and Gerontology (HAGG) ahead of the International Day for Older Persons today.

A bleak future lies ahead in terms of demographics, according to the Hellenic Association of Geriatrics and Gerontology, which projects that Greece's population by 2050 will be older and reduced by anything between 800,000 and 2.5 million people.

A nation in decline
The critical problem of a rapidly aging population is absent from Greek public discourse.
Besides, the country today is more preoccupied with the past and the present. And, at least for now, it appears indifferent about the future.
