Weather: Storm “Atena” approaching – When and where it will strike

 The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) updated its emergency weather bulletin on Sunday afternoon, noting that a low-pressure system forming in the Western Mediterranean is causing storm “Atena” in the Central Mediterranean and is moving eastward.

According to the forecast, from today, Thursday, and continuing until Saturday, significant deterioration in weather is expected across most of mainland Greece, with intense rain and thunderstorms, frequent lightning, and localized hail showers.

Citizens have been informed that the weather will worsen starting from the western, central, and northern regions with local showers and thunderstorms today, Monday (19-08-24), and tomorrow, Tuesday (20-08-24). These storms will be accompanied locally by frequent lightning and hailstorms.

A particularly hot week awaits us, although the intense heat has already begun in the past few days. Meteorologists have been warning for days about a lasting heatwave and very high temperatures, while EMY, in its special bulletin, says that temperatures will remain high at least until Friday 19/7.
