Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for a pardon for a soldier convicted of manslaughter for killing a wounded Palestinian.
Elor Azaria, 19 at the time, shot Abdul Fatah al-Sharif, 21, in the head while he was lying immobile on a road.

BOGOTÁ, Colombia - General Mario Montoya Uribe, the lifelong military man and former Commander of the Colombian National Army, knew of the extrajudicial killings carried out as part of the 'false positives' case and did nothing to stop them, according to a Human Rights Watch (HRW) report that cited former generals.
Turkey silencing independent media: Human Rights Watch
Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Dec. 15 accused Turkey of "silencing" independent media after the failed July 15 coup attempt.
In a report, the U.S.-based rights watchdog said Turkey's assault on critical journalism began several years ago and had steadily sharpened since 2014, accelerating further since the attempted takeover.

Attacks on Balkan Media Unchecked, HRW Says
Western Balkan governments and the European Union have over the past year failed to take action to address the issues hindering media freedom in the region, the NGO Human Rights Watch, HRW, said in the 2016 update of its media freedom report.
It added that new, troubling cases of threats and attacks on journalists had meanwhile emerged - but also remained unpunished.

BELGRADE - Militants of the Islamic State (ISIL/ISIL) jihadist group killed at least 300 former Iraqi police officers and buried them southeast of Mosul, according to an international human rights organization.

EU lawmakers criticize Turkey over press freedom
The European Parliament has called on Ankara to release all journalists in prison without proof of alleged involvement in the July 15 failed coup attempt.
Meeting in Strasbourg, the parliamentarians passed a resolution calling on Turkey to "narrow the scope of emergency measures, so that they can no longer be used to curtail freedom of expression."
