International Museum Day has been celebrated worldwide on May 18 every year since 1977. The day is aimed at raising awareness on how important museums are in the development of society. Greece, a hub of culture, could not be missing from celebrations with a number of activities planned at museums around the country.

“Museum collections make connections” is the motto for this year's International Museum Day, a global celebration of institutions and cultures taking place around May 18 every year. Established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the event aims to encourage public awareness with regard to the role of museums in societies.
