Tragic accident claims life of 36-year-old man near Thessaloniki

A 36-year-old man lost his life after being crushed by a building's roof near the northern port city of Thessaloniki. 

According to state broadcaster ERT, the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. during construction work on the lower floor, where the man was working alongside his father-in-law and friends.

Father remanded in custody after admitting to killing daughter

A 69-year-old man, accused of killing his 42-year-old daughter in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, has been placed in custody following his testimony to the authorities. The suspect, who is the victim's father, stated that he took his daughter's life because he couldn't bear to witness her suffering from multiple sclerosis.

Man, 22, hospitalized after attack by pack of dogs in Thessaloniki park

A 22-year-old man was in serious condition on Monday after being attacked by a pack of dogs on Sunday afternoon in a park on the fringes of Thessaloniki's Seich-Sou forest. 

According to the local police, the man had been walking alone in the Kryoneri park at around 6.30 p.m. when he was suddenly attacked by the the dogs. 

Baby abandoned in Thessaloniki

A newborn boy, who was found abandoned at the entrance of a Thessaloniki apartment block on Tuesday, was later being treated at the northern port city's Ippokrateio Hospital, along with the infant's 24-year-old mother who was traced to a nearby apartment.

Injury of doctor in hospital elevator fall prompts complaints

The Medical Association of Athens (ISA) and the union of Greek hospital workers, known by its acronym POEDIN, have complained following the injury of a doctor at the Ippokrateio hospital when the elevator he was in plunged several floors.

The ISA referred to an "unprecedented incident which points to the collapse of the National Health Service due to underfunding and understaffing."

Thessaloniki pupil, 16, injured in brawl

A 16-year-old high school pupil was injured Thursday during a brawl outside his school in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki involving a gang of 20-30 hooded teenagers.

According to reports, the gang launched an attack against youngsters on streets adjacent to their school in the area of Kalamaria.

The 16-year-old received treatment at the Ippokrateio Hospital.
