Israeli attacks have destroyed more than 70 percent of public facilities in Rafah in southern Gaza, the city's mayor has said.

"Over 70 percent of public facilities and infrastructure have been destroyed in the Israeli onslaught," Ahmed al-Soufi said late on June 20.

He said the Israeli army blew up dozens of homes in the Saudi neighborhood of western Rafah.

The Israeli military said successive rocket barrages were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel Wednesday, after an Israeli strike killed a senior Hezbollah commander in south Lebanon the previous day.

A U.N. investigation concluded on Wednesday that Israel has committed crimes against humanity during the war in Gaza, including that of "extermination", while saying Israeli and Palestinian armed groups have both committed war crimes.

The independent Commission of Inquiry's report is the United Nations' first in-depth investigation into the events of the war that erupted on Oct. 7.

A senior Hezbollah commander has been killed in a strike on a village in southern Lebanon, marking the most significant loss for the group since the beginning of the Gaza conflict. This incident has intensified the near-daily shelling between Lebanon and Israel.

Local residents in the central Gaza Strip report that at least 39 individuals lost their lives in an Israeli attack on a United Nations school. The targeted school, administered by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, was situated within the Nuseirat refugee camp and was hosting hundreds of displaced persons at the time of the assault.

World leaders have warmly welcomed US President Joe Biden's new peace plan for the Gaza Strip. Hamas also responded positively to Israel's proposal to end the conflict.

The Israeli army has announced that it controls the strategic zone along the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, known as the Philadelphi Corridor. This area spans 8 kilometers and, in some places, is more than 100 meters wide. The military claims to have discovered 20 tunnels used by the radical Palestinian group Hamas to smuggle weapons into Gaza.

The United States asserts that Israel did not cross any red lines in its recent operation in Rafah. John Kirby, the White House's national security spokesperson, made this statement, emphasizing that Washington condemns the loss of life in Gaza but currently has no intentions of altering its policy towards Tel Aviv.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Monday a U.N. court ruling telling Israel to stop its offensive in Gaza's Rafah must be implemented, as European ministers met Arab counterparts in Brussels.

Israel has continued to strike Rafah as its government has dismissed Friday's ruling from the International Court of Justice.

Israel bombed the Gaza Strip, including Rafah, on Saturday, a day after the top U.N. court ordered it to halt military operations in the southern city as efforts get underway in Paris to seek a ceasefire in the war sparked by Hamas's Oct. 7 attack.
