Air raid sirens were activated across central Israel, prompting millions of residents to take shelter as shells were fired from Lebanon, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), reported by Reuters. The IDF noted efforts to intercept some of the incoming shells.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held security consultations at the Defense Ministry Monday night to discuss the response of Israel to the armed attack by Hezbollah drone strike on Sunday and the retaliation in Iran.

Sirens sounded in Tel Aviv and 180 communities in central Israel, with the IDF citing a barrage of rockets from Lebanon and Hezbollah claiming responsibility.

This is the first time since October 8 that Israeli fighter jets have targeted an area where Hezbollah is not active.

Hezbollah said it targeted an Israeli naval base on Monday, a day after a drone strike killed four soldiers in the deadliest attack on Israel since the war in Lebanon began.

Türkiye issued a strong statement on Sunday, accusing Israel of harboring intentions to expand its occupation into Lebanon, citing repeated attacks on the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) as evidence.

The Israeli military has announced that the U.S. has deployed the THAAD anti-ballistic missile defense system in Israel amid tensions with Iran.

Israeli Army Radio described the move as part of preparations for the expected Israeli response to Iran's recent missile attack.

The Foreign Ministry has expressed its concern about the "targeting of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon" (UNIFIL) and "underscores its crucial role in light of the regional escalation."

"As a UNIFIL contributor, Greece stresses that the safety and security of UN personnel and property must be ensured," the ministry said on X.

Israel has faced backlash and a series of condemnations after it fired on positions of the United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon, UNIFIL, with the second such event unfolding on Oct. 11 in the latest escalation.
