With summer break nearing its end and students preparing to return to school, parents are facing nail-biting concerns over bus fares, as some companies and institutions are raising costs by over 100 percent, disregarding the 16 percent official hike set by Istanbul Municipality's Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME).

Istanbul Municipality's Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) has approved a new regulation aimed at curbing the soaring school bus fees, ensuring that prices remain in line with the tariff set by the center.

Walking has become practically impossible on Istanbul's Princes' Islands, where thousands of people flock to daily throughout the summer, since the number of unlicensed battery-powered vehicles on the islands' streets are starting to soar.

Islanders complained to local media about the dramatic increase in the number of these vehicles.

Public transport and taxi prices in Istanbul have been raised by 51.52 percent while the short distance fee of yellow taxis has been hiked by 75 percent.
