Westermann hits clutch to lift Fenerbahçe past Bursa

Fenerbahçe Beko won their third consecutive game in ING Basketball Süper Lig after they beat FruttiEx Bursa 86-83 on Jan. 5.
Fenerbahçe's French guard Leo Westermann scored 16 seconds before the end of the game and took his team to win.
Nando de Colo was the highest scorer for Fenerbahçe Beko with 29 points in Ülker Sports Arena.

Turkish captain killed at Indian Ocean is buried in Istanbul

A captain of a Turkish-flagged cargo vessel sailing in the Indian Ocean was stabbed to death by the vessel's greaser on Dec. 20. Two crew members who wanted to neutralize the murderer also were injured with knife strokes.

The vessel was at the sea after receiving its cargo from Semeran Port of Indonesia.

After the two-month biological research as part of the National Polar Research Programme has concluded, research continues in the remaining two months of the Antarctic summer in the field of earth sciences, said Prof. Hristo Pimpirev, Director of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute and leader of the 27th Antarctic expedition, reports Focus News Agency. 

Students from Istanbul Technical University to participate in rover competition in US

A group of students from Istanbul Technical University (İTU) are set to attend the finals of a competition in the U.S. with a Mars rover they have built, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on May 29. 
The "İTU Rover Team" group will participate in the University Rover Challenge (URC) in the U.S. state of Utah between June 1 and 3. 

Master photographer Sabit Kalfagil laid to rest

A master of Turkish photography, Professor Sabit Kalfagil, was laid to rest in Istanbul on May 6.

Kalfagil died in Istanbul's Haydapaşa Albdülhamit Research and Education Hospital on May 5 at the age of 83.
Among the attendees of his funeral ceremony were academics from Marmara University and many photography artists.
