Nine men arrested in connection with the sinking of a fishing boat southwest of the Peloponnese that killed at least 78 migrants were given until Monday (June 19) to testify before an investigative magistrate.

The Greek coastguard rescued 85 illegal immigrants in the open seas off the west coast of Pylos in the west of Peloponnese, late last night. The immigrants were on a yacht and after being spotted were taken to the port of Kalamata. According to sources, one of the immigrants aboard the yacht sent a distress signal to the Kalamata police with a cell phone.
