Violent weather claims life in Bled
One person, reportedly a foreigner, was killed in the lakeside town of Bled by a tree knocked down as Slovenia was battered by fierce storms for the second day running on 19 July. Moreover, two persons were injured in a lightning strike at a campsite near Mozirje in northern Slovenia.

Hikers warned against using navigation in mountains
Ljubljana – The Kranj Police Department has called on those heading to the mountains to use marked trails and official maps rather than resorting to GPS navigation, which can lead into dangerous situation.
The appeal comes after rescue teams had to rescue several hikers – all foreign citizens – in the area of Mt Vogel in the Julian Alps four times in the last month.
Hikers injured by lightning brought safely from the mountains
Kranj/Mojstrana – Hikers who were injured by lightning during a storm in the area of Mt Triglav in the Julian Alps on Friday and spent the night at a hut on Mt Kredarica under the supervision of a doctor and mountain rescuers have been safely transported from the mountain, the Kranj police said this morning. Among them were two foreigners.
Lightening injures 18 hikers in Alps
Ljubljana – A lightning strike in the area of Mt Triglav in the Julian Alps has injured 18 mountaineers, two of them seriously, while the rescue effort was hampered by fog, the country’s Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief said on Friday.

Mountain rescuers busy this weekend rescuing people and dog
Bohinj/Kranj – Slovenia’s mountain rescue teams were again busy this Sunday as they came to the aid of several injured hikers as well as a dog in four helicopter dispatches. More and more hikers have insufficient knowledge about mountaineering equipment and underestimate the mountains, the authorities warn, urging responsible behaviour.
Austrian skier found dead in Mt Stol area
Ljubljana – An Austrian skier who went missing on Friday while skiing off piste in the area of Mt Stol in the Karawanken mountain range in northern Slovenia was found dead on Saturday morning, the Slovenian Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief says on its website.

Long delays at border crossings with Croatia and Austria
Ljubljana – During the last summer school break weekend this year, traffic has been dense so far at Slovenia’s border crossings with Croatia and Austria as well as on certain motorways and the Ljubljana ring road. A tailback as long as some 10 kilometres has formed on the Slovenian side of the Karawanks tunnel towards Austria.
