Supreme Court seeks probe into allegations of fraud in European elections

The Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Georgia Adilini, sent a request on Friday to the Athens prosecutor's office asking to investigate allegations of fraud during the recent European elections made by the leader of the nationalist Greek Solution (Elliniki Lysi) party, Kyriakos Velopoulos, and a former New Democracy MEP, Georgios Kyrtsos.

The right and faintheartedness

There are two definite conclusions from Sunday's European elections. Ruling New Democracy (ND) lost big and nationalist, pro-Russian Greek Solution won big. The percentages secured by all parties seem to imply a further shift of the ideological-political axis to the right.

The mixer of ruthless demagoguery

"We have said that we want gun ownership for the Greek man, training for the Greek woman, for everyone," the leader of the nationalist Greek Solution party, Kyriakos Velopoulos, said in an interview with state-run broadcaster ERT, commenting on the murder of a woman by her former partner outside a police station. His party is on the rise in the latest opinion polls.

PM to brief parties amid acrimony

Amid acrimony between the government and main opposition SYRIZA over the outcome of his talks on Tuesday with US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is to brief the leaders of opposition parties on Friday and Monday about the visit, as well as key foreign policy issues.
