Left Platform’s meeting just made SYRIZA’s internal rift a little wider

The powerful “Left Platform” of the Radical Left Coalition met on Monday night in what looked like an election campaign (but wasn’t) following the faction’s rift with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras after he signed a deal with harsh austerity measures at the Euro Summit on July 13.

Dissent within SYRIZA over the prospect of a compromise with creditors bringing more austerity measures surfaced over the weekend with the party?s radical Left Platform proposing that Greece stop paying its creditors if they continue with ?blackmailing tactics,? and seek an ?alternative plan.?

Minister of Productive Reconstruction, Environment and Energy Panagiotis Lafazanis stated that he will not approve of a deal which will mire Greece, and that the country will not surrender to its lenders, thus throwing himself in between the deal that the Government is trying to achieve with lenders.
