Greek leadership in CAP reform efforts
The new regulation for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023-2027 has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union, introducing changes to the standards for Good Agricultural and Environmental Practices, which took effect on Saturday.

Agricultural damage found to be far greater than Ianos
The Ministry of Rural Development and Food estimates that damage caused by the Daniel weather system to crop and animal production on the Thessaly Plain, a region famous for its agricultural production, will be three times worse than that which resulted from Ianos in 2020.
Some 73,000 hectares across Thessaly are under water, with 50,000-55,000 sown with cotton.
50,000 olive trees and 2,500 animals lost in Rhodes fires
Some 50,000 olive trees and 2,500 animals and beehives were destroyed in the recent fires on the Dodecanese island of Rhodes, according to an initial estimate by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
Most of the damage to the island's plant capital was in the areas of Apollona, Asklipio, Gennadi and Vati, a team from the Hellenic Agricultural Insurance Organization established.
African swine fever detected in Serres
Veterinary inspectors have identified a case of African swine fever (ASF) in pig breeding farm in the Central Macedonian regional unit of Serres, the Ministry of Rural Development and Food has announced.
The ministry said national and regional veterinary teams have been sent to the area to deal with the case in line with EU and national legislation.

Agricultural fuel – Excise duty return to 20.000 farmers
The Greek Minister of Finance, Christos Staikouras, and the Greek Minister of Rural Development and Food, Spilios Livanos, announced the measure of the excise duty return on petrol, in 2022, so as to face the increased production costs from the wave of price increases in energy and to financially support 20.000 farmers.

There are many problems that the catastrophic fires that have hit the country in recent weeks have "bequeathed" to the Greek beekeeping industry. Problems concerning both the places where beekeepers "grazed" their flocks and the number of swarms, as a significant number of them could not be saved from the countless fiery fronts.
Greek cheeses exempted from US tariffs
Greek cheeses have been exempted from US tariffs imposed on European Union agricultural products, according to the Ministry of Rural Development and Food on Thursday
The Minister of Rural Development and Food, Makis Voridis, expressed his satisfaction over the decision to the US Ambassador in Athens, Geoffrey Pyatt in a telephone conversation.
