Scooters removed from Thessaloniki seafront
Municipal police in the northern port city of Thessaloniki conducted an operation on Wednesday to remove electric scooters from several parts of the seafront which are not allowed to circulate, as part of the measures introduced to battle the coronavirus.
The city police collected 59 scooters belonging to a private rental company.

Ambitious Grand Walk project gets under way
The first phase of the plan to create an extensive network in Athens for pedestrians and bicycles, called the Grand Walk, began on Thursday on Vasilissis Olgas Avenue and Irodou Attikou Street. There was a strong Municipal Police presence to inform drivers and passers-by about the changes, while special signs are expected to be put in place today.

Free parking in Athens to limit use of public transportation
In an effort to encourage citizens to avoid public transport as part of the push to contain the spread of the coronavirus, the City of Athens will allow free parking in slots marked P-69 for 14 days as of Wednesday.

Police crack down on cars parked on wheelchair ramps
Police in Athens and Piraeus have responded to a rising number of complaints about cars being parked on wheelchair ramps at pedestrian crossings with targeted operations that led to dozens of fines.
According to an announcement on Thursday, the Hellenic Police (ELAS) and officers of the municipal police forces in the two cities carried out joint operations to locate offenders.
Dumped bikes, bicycles to be cleared from Athens sidewalks
As part of its bid to free up public space, the City of Athens is pressing forward with plans to remove more than 800 abandoned bicycles and motorbikes from the streets and sidewalks of the capital.
Some of the bikes have been recorded by the municipality's sanitation and recycling department, others by members of the municipal police and others still reported by citizens.

Taking the first step in its bid to finally enforce a ban on smoking in public places that was introduced a decade ago, the Health Ministry on Monday sent a circular to regional and inspection authorities, instructing them to intensify checks.

In an early test of its effectiveness, Greece's new conservative government has pledged to crack down on smoking in enclosed public spaces, finally putting into force a law that was introduced about ten years ago.
Smart parking scheme to ease congestion in center
A new electronic system designed to facilitate parking in central Athens and heralded on Tuesday by Mayor Giorgos Kaminis is to start operating in the next few months.
Kaminis described the scheme as a "useful tool which among other things will ease traffic congestion on streets and reduce air pollution."
