Opposition requests inquiry into political interference in police
Ljubljana – A group of opposition parties has requested a parliamentary inquiry into alleged political interference in police work during a period from 13 March 2020, when the Janez Janša government was sworn in, to the launching of the inquiry.
Investigation into suspected EUR 30m corporate fraud under way
Ljubljana – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) conducted house searches Tuesday as it investigates a suspected EUR 30m case of corporate fraud. The case revolves around the sale of retailer Engrotuš’s brands in 2016, the company confirmed.
Police force gets new job classification
Ljubljana – The police has a new classification of jobs, which its leadership says adjusts the organisation of work to new security challenges, while a trade union criticises it for bringing more paperwork and introducing more managerial or well-paid jobs. It is also bothered by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) reporting to the criminal police head.

New supervisors appointed at Petrol
Ljubljana – The shareholders of energy group Petrol appointed new supervisors on Monday and voted against a proposal to take legal action against the former management for alleged damages over multiple high-profile transactions.
Two current supervisors – chief supervisor Sašo Berger and Mladen Kaliterna – received new terms.

Finland stabbings 'a likely terror act;' Ties to Spain eyed
The knife attack in western Finland that left two people dead and seven others wounded is "a likely terror act," Finland's intelligence agency said on Aug. 19, while police said Europol was investigating if it had any ties to deadly vehicle attacks in Spain.

Finland stabbings a terrorist attack, say authorities
A series of stabbings in Finland that left two people dead is being treated as a terror attack, police have said.
The National Bureau of Investigation, which is heading the investigation, said on Saturday that those killed on Friday were Finnish citizens, while the wounded include one Italian national and two Swedes.
Number of white-collar crime cases continues to decline
The share of cases of white-collar crime in the entire crime statistics was down last year to 16.6%. On the other hand, the share of damage caused by white-collar crime in total crime was up by 8.2 percentage points to 87.8%.
Albania Parties Split Over New FBI-Style Agency
Albania's parliament was split on Thursday over the planned formation of a new body to fight corruption, modelled on the FBI, called the National Bureau of Investigation, BKH.
The new structure will be considered part of the police although it will closely collaborate with the General Prosecutor's office as well.
