Labour unions escalate protest actions with nationwide strike on Thursday
The the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and the Greek Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY) will hold a strike on February 4 to protest against the government’s planned social security reforms.
Public transport is also disrupted on Tuesday, February 2, as there are no services on the Athens metro, tram, electric railway (ISAP) between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The recapitalization of banks is part of the economy’s normalization, Katseli says
The president of Hellenic Bank Association and National Bank governor Louka Katseli in a meeting with the National Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (ESEE) said she is in favour of second business opportunities and the settlement of bad loans.
She also added that capital controls will be lifted early 2016.
Use of plastic money tripled in Greece
Use of plastic money in the retail commerce has almost tripled since the imposition of capital controls in the country.
Credit institutions issued more than 1.1 million debit cards in one month from the end of June until early August, to a total of 11 million cards, whereas Greek banks were issuing less than 100,000 debit cards a month on average previously.

Tradesmen considered this falls midseason sales on November 1-10 a failure in terms of turnover, discount rates and employment, as only one in five retail enterprises saw its sales grow this year compared with 2013, according to a survey by the National Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (ESEE).
