A brief clash between protesters and police in Syntagma Square early Saturday afternoon resulted in 33 people being detained, police said. 

Venezuela's president rejected accusations on Aug. 2 that his government inflated turnout figures from its constituent assembly election, branding them part of an effort to stain what he called a clean and transparent vote.

Venezuela’s National Electoral Council has said more than eight million people voted to grant President Nicolas Maduro’s ruling socialist party virtually unlimited powers with a constitutional assembly – a turnout more than double the estimates of both the government’s political opponents and independent experts.

The head of Tunisia's anti-Islamist Nidaa Tounes party, Beji Caid Essebsi, was on Nov. 25 leading the country's first presidential election since a 2011 revolution that sparked the Arab Spring uprisings.
      
But with no outright winner from Sunday's poll, in which Essebsi took a lead of six percentage points over incumbent Moncef Marzouki, a runoff will be held in December.
