NATO Resolute Support Mission

Turkish and U.S. delegations discussed areas of cooperation to run Afghanistan's Kabul airport, the Turkish National Defense Ministry said on June 25. 

İYİ (Good) Party leader Meral Akşener on June 23 objected to a proposal by the Turkish government for the deployment of troops to secure the Kabul airport of Afghanistan following the withdrawal of NATO forces in the war-torn country.

A technical delegation from the United States Department of Defense will visit Turkey on June 24 to discuss the activities for keeping the Kabul Hamid Karzai International Airport in Afghanistan operational.

Turkey proposed to secure and manage the airport in Kabul after the NATO troops end its mission as a Resolute Support Mission.

Defence Minister Nicolae Ciuca, Interior Minister Marcel Vela, and Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Daniel Petrescu, went to Afghanistan on Tuesday to meet with the Romanian troops. "We really wanted to go to Afghanistan before the winter holidays, to meet with the troops and to send them our message of appreciation for everything they do for the Romanian Army and for the country.

Hina reports that wounded soldiers are the members of the 10th Croatian contingent (HRVCON) which is situated in Afghanistan since March 2019, as a part of NATO Resolute Support Mission, while the members of the armed forces of Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina also belong to this Contingent.

A suicide bomber targeting a Romanian NATO patrol in a village in Daman province, in southern Afghanistan, killed 11 children and wounded scores of others, including eight Romanian soldiers.

NATO is considering sending additional military personnel to Afghanistan and increasing the timeframe of the deployment in the view of the "challenging security situation," the alliance's secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, told the German Die Welt daily.
