Georgi Angelov, senior economist at "Open Society", shared insights on Bulgaria's battle against the demographic crisis in an interview with NOVA NEWS.

"Demographics is perhaps the most important issue the country is facing," admitted the board president of the Citizens' Movement for an Open Society and former head of the permanent delegation of the European Commission in Greece, Panos Karvounis, at an event organized in Athens by the diaNEOsis think tank and the Citizens' Movement.

Bulgaria's caretaker government plans to increase all pensions from 1 October this year, announced Finance Minister Asen Vassilev, adding that if parliament supports his proposals, no pensioners in Bulgaria will be living below the poverty line by autumn.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Friday met Alexander Soros, the son of billionaire philanthropist George Soros and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Open Society Foundations, to discuss opening a branch of the Foundation's Roma Institute in Serbia.

RTK in Serbian is reporting that Nataliya Apostolova said this during a conference organized by the Kosovo Foundation for Open Society (KFOS).

"I'm afraid that member countries may reject the application. What counts in this process is the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia and fight against organized crime and corruption", Apostolova said.

Billionaire George Soros has transferred $18 billion to his Open Society Foundations, the primary vehicle for his global political activism and philanthropy.

The famous Hungarian-American investor and business magnate, George Soros, donated much of his wealth to his foundation, founded in 1984 to support democracy, human rights and freedom of the press, reports BNT. 

Open Society received USD 18 billion from 87-year-old Soros, a big donor to the Democratic Party in the United States, a spokeswoman for the Foundation told AFP.
